Energy Spending Decreased

Some of the most important things a household might do for the environmental preservation is to reduce the amount of energy the household is using and to start paying more for alternative energy sources while saving up from the ordinary sources like heating and directly supplied electricity. This idea is not a common sense proclamation but rather the reality that many organisations like Enigin are supporting - the less energy dependent on the ordinary resources we use, the more we More

Stormy Weather

Don’t you just hate the British weather? As if our summers aren’t pathetic enough we now seem to have skipped past autumn immediately and gone straight into winter. I wasn’t expecting to have to dig my winter coat and woolly hat out for another few weeks, but I soon found myself scrabbling through the hall cupboard looking for extra layers before I took the dog for a walk last weekend.

Well, I say taking the dog for a walk. Actually More

Ten Years Ahead

Ten Years Ahead

The 2010 UN Biodiversity meeting in Nagoya, Japan is probably one of the most anticipated environmentally focused discussions for the year and it will focus on important issues that are currently bothering the world (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-11563513). The main objective of the meeting would be to develop new approaches and set up new aims in the environmental protection programmes and at the same time to provide conditions for the development of the bio diversity and prevent the extinction of some dangared spicies.

The representatives of the UN concluded several quite disturbing considerations and the public should be aware of some significant main focuses - we need to do a little by changing our lifestyle just slightly for the good of the environment, but the impact of that minor change would be significant for the whole bio world.

Scientists and representatives conclude that if we do not undertake specific approach towards preserving the bio diversity of our planet, the extinction of spicies both from the flora and founa, would be irreversible (and this might not shock those people who would gladly replace a square mile of rainforest for an oil tank full of fuel) - this is when the social awareness and the campaigns would be no longer available - there would be no bio diversity to preserve.

Politicians and scientists as well as environmental organisations say that the this year’s Nagoya meeting and discussions would be crucial for the next ten years and by 2020 the UN must have been completed its new aims and innitiatives in order to preserve the bio world and to maintain its spreading and population. This is how we can contribute and save not only several dangered spicies, but also whole parts from bio layers and groups of diverse representatives of both flora and founa.

fizzy water by fountain?

As we all know, bottled water may be bad for the environment, with all the botting and disposal of used bottles having an impact on Climate Change. This has had some effect on the public, with people opting for tap water instead of bottled water when they go and visit restaurants and pubs.

However in Paris, they have taken this to the next level. Accodring to an article published by Yahoo - http://uk.news.yahoo.com/22/20100921/tod-oukoe-uk-france-water-2d83d21.html - the Paris authorities have installed a public drinking fountain which dispenses sparkling water for absolutely free. The fountain, installed in Jardin de Reuilly park, which also is owned by Eau de Paris, a water company who installed the water fountain which dispenses free sparkling, still and refrigerated water to wean the public off using bottled water and to drink using the fountain instead.

Phillipe Burguiere, spokesperson for Eau de Paris said “Our aim is to boost the image of Paris tap water. We want to show that we’re proud of it, that it’s totally safe, and that it’s ecological as there’s no oil involved, no waste and no packaging. This is a first, so we’re going to watch how Parisians react and whether there’s an uptake. Then we might gradually install others in the busiest parks.”

In 2009, France consumed 128 litres of bottled water per person on average, generating a massive total of 262,000 of wastage of bottle plastic, which is a serious concern to the environment. By installing fountains (yes there are plans for more!) France hopes to cut the consumption of bottled water and switching to free tap water should be easier on the environment, and on the wallet!

Go Electric!

This morning after I’d eaten my breakfast of porridge (which was a bit of a departure as normally I’m a toast and marmite kind of guy!), I started flicking through the newspapers. Actually that’s not entirely accurate. I wasn’t flicking through the newspapers literally but was instead flicking through the various online news sites virtually. Anyway, as I was reading the latest environmental news on Treehugger.com I came across an article about oil prices. It’s hard to believe this but More

Watching around thirty-eight ants make their way down my garden path last week – I can be accurate there were about this number, as it was during the break of The Jeremy Kyle Show and I was punishing my sordid hate filled mind with some much needed boredom and numeracy combined – I considered how fantastic they were at wasting energy. Ha! I thought, there’s something we beat you hands down at! It was then when I noticed that each More

As life so often demonstrates, it’s all about the small things you do or don’t do: these are the things that can make a big difference to the big picture. Look no further than finding a London fuck buddy as an example; you go to answer an add to meet “Lisa, the eighteen year old hot goth,” don’t bother reading the small print because you’re in a rush – this, explaining that the woman behind the advertisement is herself a More
